Much of the design history of the United Nations Command logo is unknown. As the UNC badge needed to be developed quickly as the Korean War was beginning, it is believed the logo was originally laid over an existing U.S. Army badge with a red background. This was later changed to comply with the approved UN design which specifies map projection and color scheme.

United Nations Resolutions established the mandate for United Nations Command in calling for a multinational, unified command to restore peace on the Korean Peninsula and the international area under the UN flag. On July 24, 1950, United Nations Command came into existence and is still responsible for maintaining peace and security today.
