Military Armistice Commission - Secretariat
The 1953 Korean War Armistice Agreement is a living document necessary for maintaining security and stability on the Korean Peninsula until diplomacy can achieve a lasting peace. UNC’s Military Armistice Commission (UNCMAC) and its Secretariat are responsible for negotiating and implementing the terms of that agreement.
UNCMAC-S Six Lines of Effort
Negotiate and
communicate with the North Korean army, officially named Korea People’s Army (KPA), as required to maintain and enforce the Armistice Agreement; maintain 24/7 UNC-KPA hotline to communicate through messages, meetings, and daily communication checks; provide redundant communications for the South Korea Red Cross on humanitarian issues such as repatriations.
Educate South Korean frontline units, professional military education institutions, government and non-government agencies, US military/civilian personnel, and distinguished visitors on the importance of the Armistice Agreement.
Control Demilitarized Zone (DMZ)
access and Military Demarcation Line (MDL)
crossings; control access through Transportation Corridor-East and Transportation Corridor-West which are two pathways across the de facto North and South border.
