There is misreporting that continues to circulate in the media that United Nations Command (UNC) blocked delivery of Tamiflu to the Democratic People’s Republic of Korea (DPRK) in January 2019. This information is false: UNC approved the delivery of Tamiflu on 20 January and renewed the approval every day until 31 January 2019.
2019년 1월 타미플루 대북 반출을 유엔군사령부(유엔사)에서 막았다는 내용의 오보가 언론상에 계속해서 보도되고 있습니다. 이는 사실과 다릅니다. 유엔사는 2019년 1월 20일에 타미플루 반출을 승인하였으며, 1월 31일까지 매일 갱신된 대북 반출 신청을 계속해서 승인하였습니다.
Tamiflu--antiviral medication used to treat influenza--was humanitarian aid that the Republic of Korea (ROK) government intended to deliver to the DPRK in early 2019. When the delivery failed to occur, news outlets began misreporting that UNC was blocking the movement of the goods across the Military Demarcation Line. Although UNC issued corrective statements at the time, the false narrative has nevertheless persisted.
독감 치료용 항바이러스제인 타미플루는 대한민국 정부가 대북 인도 지원을 위해 2019년 초 북측에 전달하려 했던 것입니다. 실제 전달이 이루어지지 않자, 타미플루 반출을 유엔사가 막았다는 내용의 언론 보도가 등장하기 시작했습니다. 당시 유엔사에서 반박문을 냈음에도 불구하고, 이러한 오보는 지금까지도 계속되고 있습니다.
The fact remains that UNC rapidly approved Military Demarcation Line crossings for the delivery of Tamiflu. The first request for the delivery was received by UNC late on a Sunday night, and the ROK government received UNC approval by midday on the following Monday to facilitate entry into the DPRK. For the next 10 days, UNC received almost daily updates on the request for delivery of Tamiflu, which the command immediately approved each time.
분명한 사실은 당시 유엔사가 타미플루 전달을 위한 군사분계선 통과를 신속하게 승인하였다는 것입니다. 최초 출경 신청이 일요일 밤 늦게 접수되었음에도 불구하고, 유엔사는 신속한 반출 지원을 위해 접수 바로 다음 날인 월요일 정오경에 동 신청 건이 승인되었음을 대한민국 정부 측에 전달하였습니다. 타미플루 반출 신청서는 그 이후로도 10일간 거의 매일 수정돼 접수되었으며, 유엔사는 매번 접수 즉시 승인하였습니다.
