United Nations Command bid farewell to its Deputy Commander Vice Adm. Stuart C. Mayer during a ceremony at UNC Headquarters inside United States Army Garrison Humphreys today.
유엔군사령부는 오늘 험프리 美육군기지 내 유엔사 본청에서 스튜어트 C. 메이어 유엔사 부사령관 이임식을 가졌다.
Gen. Paul J. LaCamera, Commander of United Nations Command, hosted the ceremony that included Deputy Commander of Combined Forces Command Gen. Kim, Seung Kyum, as well as the Commanders of both the US 7th Air Force and US 8th Army.
폴 J. 라캐머라 유엔사 사령관이 주관한 본 행사에는 김승겸 연합사 부사령관 및, 美7공군 사령관과 美 8군 사령관이 참석하였다.
Vice Adm. Mayer assumed the position of UNC Deputy Commander in July 2019.
메이어 부사령관은 2019년 7월부터 본직을 수행해왔다.
LaCamera recognized the exceptional efforts of Mayer to reinforce UNC’s mission to the people of South Korea; noting him as the first Australian Defence Force Officer to fulfill the position of Deputy Commander, UNC.
라캐머라 사령관은 메이어 부사령관이 대한민국 국민에게 유엔사 임무를 강조하는데 탁월한 노력을 했음을 치하하며, 유엔사 부사령관직을 수행한 첫번째 호주 군임임을 밝혔다.
“The mission here at UNC is one of international significance, which means nations send only their very best to United Nations Command. Vice Adm. Mayer brought with him 35 years of military experience. His strategic vision and his mastery of diplomatic interagency skills made lasting positive impacts,” LaCamera said.
사령관은 이임식에서 “유엔사의 임무는 국제적인 중요성을 가진 것으로, 각국에서 최정예 요원을 유엔사로 보낸다는 것을 뜻합니다. 35년간의 군 경험을 가진 메이어 부사령관은, 전략적인 비젼과 숙달된 부처간 외교적 조율능력으로, 유엔사에 지속적이고 긍적적인 영향을 주었습니다.”라고 말했다.
“Vice Adm. Mayer shaped UNC strategic communication work, led armistice agreement maintenance and revamped UNC’s combined command post training, he interfaced daily with sending States and our Korean colleagues, ensuring the success of UNC.”
“메이어 부사령관은 유엔사의 전략적 커뮤니케이션 업무를 조성하였으며, 정전협정유지 및 유엔사의 연합 지휘소 훈련을 개편하였고, 전력제공국 및 한국군 파트너들과 매일 교류함으로써, 유엔사의 성공적인 업무를 보장하였습니다”
In his farewell address, Mayer said, “When we look to the traditions of UNC we see a history of which to be proud, and one that should be remembered and honored as an example of how the world community works, when it works at its best.”
메이어 부사령관은 이임사에서, “유엔사의 전통을 돌아보면, 본 조직이 최상의 업무를 수행할때의 좋은 예를 보여주기에, 우리는 이 (전통에) 자부심을 가지고, 기억하며, 기려야 할 것입니다.”라고 말했다.
“Similarly, when we look to the future and consider UNC we can look ahead with the same mixture of pride and confidence, pride that 70 years after we first committed to the endeavor of restoring peace and security to the Peninsula 17 of those nations remain a part of the Command and share an unbroken commitment to peace in Korea.”
“또한 비슷하게, 미래를 바라보며 유엔사를 고려할때도, 70여년전에17개 전력제공국이, (유엔)사령부의 일원으로, 한반도에 평화와 안정을 복원하기 위해 노력과 헌신을 다짐했던, 그때의 자부심과 동일한 자부심과 자신감으로, 한반도에서의 평화를 위한 중단없는 헌신을 공유해야 할 것입니다.”
Mayer was awarded the Legion of Merit Degree of Officer, and Mrs. Sue Mayer received a Scroll of Appreciation recognizing her dedicated work and support of UNC families in South Korea.
메이어 부사령관은 훈공장을 수여받았고, 수 메이어 여사는 한국에서 유엔사 요원들과 그 가족들에 대한 공헌과 헌신에 대한 감사장을 수여받았다.
Mayer will now return to Australia and continue to advocate for United Nations Command.
메이어 부사령관은 호주로 귀국후에도 지속적으로 유엔사를 지지하기 위해 노력할 것이다.
