The primary purpose of the Military Armistice Commission Headquarters Area (MACHA) is to provide the UNC Commander with a venue for engagement with the North Korean People's Army (KPA). The MACHA Education and Orientation Program (E&OP), as governed by the UNC Regulation 551-5, supports UNC's efforts in raising awareness of this important mission.
The UNC Security Battalion-Joint Security Area's (UNCSB-JSA) primary mission is to provide security in the JSA for the conduct of engagements between the UNC and KPA, and to conduct a security mission. The UNCSB-JSA also supports DE&OP. In order to remain proficient and capable as a security force, the UNCSB-JSA must sustain weapons, tactics and equipment readiness. In order to allow the soldiers the opportunity to maintain this readiness, they need a predictable training schedule protected from changes.
Saturdays are normal tour days, there are no orientations on Sundays, Mondays and Thursdays unless authorized by the UNCMAC Secretary. The UNCMAC Secretary will consider exceptions if there is little to no risk to the UNCSB-JSA's training requirements and therefore, its mission.
The following dates have been approved as UNC MACHA No Orientation Days for the 2nd QTR, Calendar Year 2021. H-128 mission primary and alternate dates are included in this memorandum. This memo will remain in effect as long as there are no requirements to implement additional restrictions due to COVID-19.
