Gen. Vincent K. Brooks, Commander of United Nations Command, authorized vehicles and personnel from the Republic of Korea to cross the Military Demarcation Line today in the eastern transportation corridor to support construction of communication infrastructure to be used between the Republic of Korea and North Korea.
대한민국, 평택 캠프 험프리스 – 유엔사령부 사령관인 빈센트 K. 브룩스 장군은 오늘 남북간 통신 시설의 공사 지원을 위해 동해선을 통한 대한민국의 차량과 인력의 군사 분계선 통과를 승인했다.
The approval allows more material than what is needed to repair communication lines, and will result in the construction of a communication building.
이 승인을 통해 운반될 자재는 비단 통신선 보수에 필요한 자재에 국한된 것은 아니며 궁긍적으로 대한민국과 북한단의 통신 건물의 건축에 필요한 자재들이 될 것이다.
"UNC has and continues to actively enable all of the engagements between North and South Korea that require crossing the military demarcation line and the demilitarized zone, which are under the authority of UN Command," said Brooks.
브룩스사령관은 “유엔사는 여느때와 같이 유엔사 관할구역인 비무장 지대와, 군사 분계선 통과에 필요로 하는 남한과 북한 사이의 모든 활동을 적극적으로 지원한다.” 라고 밝혔다.
"While this request was unusual in the amount of construction material South Korea is carrying across, I am keen to ensure good communication infrastructure exists between the two sides as a way to prevent incidents or crises," he added. "This construction serves the spirit of the Armistice Agreement."
“남한이 운송하는 건축 자재의 양을 고려했을 때 이 요청은 이례적이었지만, 양측간의 위기 또는 사고의 발생을 방지할 수 있도록 양측간 원할한 소통을 보장하는 통신 체게의 구축을 적극적으로 보장하고 싶다,” 라고 그는 덧붙였다. “이 건축은 정전 협정의 정신을 반영한다.”
The South Korean government also coordinated the crossing of delegations for tomorrow's planned opening ceremony of the Kaesong Liaison Office, and a request for more than 100 South Korean government officials to visit the site the next day. UN Command agreed to both crossings.
한국 정부는 내일 계획된 개성 연락 사무소 개소 행사를 위한 대표단의 통과를 협조하였으며 또한 그 다음 날 계획된 100여명이 넘는 한국 정부 관계자의 통과를 요청했다. 유엔사령부는 두 요청을 모두 동의했다.
UNC is the home for international commitments with a mandate to restore peace and security in defense of the Republic of Korea. UNC coordinates multilateral engagement, and provides a standing multinational framework for the integration of UN Forces into the command.
