Lieutenant General Andrew Harrison DSO MBE Andrew Harrison was educated in London and completed a degree in Economics prior to joining the Parachute Regiment in 1990. His service through the 1990s included multiple tours to Northern Ireland, a year with the UN in Iraq, exchanges to the Australian and New Zealand armies and appointments at the Royal Military Academy Sandhurst and Directorate of Military Operations.

In 2000 Andrew was posted to Sierra Leone as an unarmed UN Military Observer. On the outbreak of civil war he was captured for 12 days by rebels from the Revolutionary United Front. He subsequently escaped to a rebel-surrounded UN enclave. After three months the group were relieved in a UKSF/UN assault. He was appointed a member of the Order of the British Empire for his conduct in captivity.

Following a Master’s Degree in Defence Administration and Joint Staff College, Andrew assumed rifle company command and led his Company in the 2003 liberation of Iraq. Thereafter he was appointed Chief of Staff of 20 Armoured Brigade and returned to Basra with the Brigade in 2006. He was awarded a Queen’s Commendation for his service in Iraq.

Through 2007, Andrew organised the repatriation of UK deceased from Iraq and Afghanistan in 68 ceremonies. He was then posted to the UK’s Permanent Joint Headquarters and finished this tour seconded to 3 Commando Brigade in Helmand, Afghanistan. In 2009, Andrew assumed command of the 2nd Battalion of the Parachute Regiment, returning to Helmand the next year. He was wounded on the tour and appointed to the Distinguished Service Order for his leadership.

On promotion to Colonel, Andrew became the military lead for Afghanistan planning at the Ministry of Defence. After attending the UK’s Higher Command and Staff Course he was promoted to Brigade command in the Allied Rapid Reaction Corps. In 2016, Andrew completed a Master’s Degree in Politics and Policy and attended the Australian Defence College. He was the UK’s Defence Adviser to Australia between 2017 and 2019.

On promotion to Major General, Andrew commanded UK troops in Afghanistan and was awarded the US Legion of Merit for his service in Kabul. From May 2020 he was in the United States as Senior British Military Adviser to Central Command and promoted to Lieutenant General in December 2021, assuming Deputy Command of the United Nations Command, Korea.

Andrew is married to Carolyn, an ex-Army Officer and teacher. They have three daughters. In his spare time, he enjoys cricket, skiing, cycling, running and military history. He is Colonel Commandant of the Parachute Regiment.
앤드류 해리슨 중장은 런던에서 경제학 학사 취득 후 1990년 낙하산 연대 소속으로 입대하였음. 이후 1999년까지 북아일랜드에서 여러 차례 복무하였고, 유엔 소속으로 이라크에 1년간 파병되었음. 호주 및 뉴질랜드 육군과 교환장교로 근무하였으며, 영국 샌드허스트 육군사관학교와 육군 작전본부에서 여러 보직을 역임하였음. 2000년도에는 유엔 소속 비무장 군사 참관단의 일원으로 시에라리온에 파병되었음.

내전이 발발하면서 혁명통일전선 소속 현지 반군에 12일 동안 포로로 억류되었으나, 반군이 포위하고 있던 유엔 주둔지로 탈출하였음. 3개월 후 유엔 참관단은 영국군 특수부대/유엔의 공격을 통해 구조되었음. 포로 억류 시 보여준 활동으로 대영제국 훈장(MBE)을 수여받았음. 영국 합동참모대학에서 국방행정학 석사학위를 취득한 후 소총 중대장으로 임명되어 2003년 이라크전에 참전하였음.

이후 제20기갑여단 참모장으로 임명되었고, 2006년 기갑여단 소속으로 이라크 바스라로 재파병되었음. 이라크에서 세운 공로를 인정받아 영국 여왕 훈장을 받았음. 2007년에는 이라크와 아프가니스탄에서 전사한 영국군 유해 송환식을 총68회 총괄하였음. 이후 영국 합동참모본부에 보직된 후 아프가니스탄 헬만드에서 작전 수행 중이던 제3 특공여단에 파견되었음.

2009년 낙하산 연대 제2대대장으로 임명되었고, 이듬해 헬만드로 재파병되었음. 이 기간 중 부상을 입었으나, 리더십을 인정받아 공로훈장(DSO)을 수여받았음. 대령으로 진급한 후 영국 국방부의 아프가니스탄 계획을 총괄하였음. 영국의 고위지휘참모과정을 이수한 후 연합신속대응군단의 여단장으로 진급하였음. 2016년 호주 국방대학교에서 정치/정책학 석사학위를 취득하였음.

2017년부터 2019년까지 주 호주 영국 국방무관으로 재직하였음. 소장 진급 후 아프가니스탄에서 영국군을 지휘했으며, 카불에서 복무한 공로로 미국 공로훈장을 받았음. 2020년 5월부터 미 중부사령부에서 영국군 고위 군사 자문으로 재직하였으며, 2021년 12월 중장으로 진급하여 한국 유엔군사령부 부사령관으로 임명되었음.

해리슨 중장은 전 육군 장교이자 교사인 캐롤린(Carolyn)과 결혼하여 슬하에 세 딸을 두고 있음. 여가 시간에는 크리켓, 스키, 사이클링, 달리기를 즐기며, 군사(軍史)에 관심이 많음. 영국 낙하산 연대를 총괄하는 커널 커맨단트(Colonel Commandant) 직을 수행 중임.
