DMZ Peace Trails (April, May 2019)

As part of his plan for inter-Korean rapprochement, South Korea’s President Moon Jae-in announced his intent to transform the DMZ into a “peace zone,” directing the government to increase access to the DMZ for South Koreans. To that end, the UNC commander authorized the opening of three “peace trails” inside the DMZ, located at Paju, Cheorwon and Goseong. The addition of these trekking trails – important in a country whose citizens consider hiking a favorite pastime – brings the total number of sites within the DMZ that are accessible to the public up to 16.
