Good morning, good afternoon, and good evening, families, friends, and honored guests.  Thank you for being here today.  This is an incredible event for my family and I, as we have this opportunity to continue to serve in the Indo-Pacific region, now here in the Republic of Korea, and to support our ironclad Alliance.  It is good to be back.
안녕하십니까? 참석하고 계신 위치에 따라 좋은 아침, 즐거운 오후, 즐거운 저녁입니다. 오늘 참석해 주셔서 감사합니다. 오늘은 제 가족에게 정말 기쁜 날입니다. 계속해서 인도태평양 지역 내에 있으면서 이번에는 대한민국에 근무하며 철통 같은 동맹을 지원할 수 있는 기회를 갖게 되었습니다. 한국에 돌아와서 기쁩니다.

I would like to welcome:  the Minister of National Defense, the Honorable Suh, Wook . . . the Chairman of the ROK JCS, General Won, In-choul . . . and personally thank the Honorable Lloyd Austin, GEN Milley, ADM Aquilino, and GEN Abrams.  A special recognition to the families of the fallen, the ROK/US and sending states, here and listening in – we owe you a debt we will not be able to repay.
서욱 국방부장관님, 원인철 합참의장님, 환영합니다. 오스틴 국방장관님, 밀리 합참의장님, 아퀼리노 인도태평양사령관님, 그리고 에이브럼스 대장님께 개인적으로 감사합니다. 이 자리에 대면 또는 온라인상으로 참석해주신 전사자 유가족분들께 특별히 감사합니다. 우리는 여러분께 갚을 수 없는 빚을 지고 있습니다.

I would also like to recognize my fellow general and flag officers, commanders, and senior enlisted leaders – it is a true honor to serve along such great warfighters.  Also welcome to our senior community leaders, Service Members, civilians, and family members.
동료 장성급 장교, 지휘관, 주임원사들 – 여러분처럼 훌륭한 용사들과 복무할 수 있어 영광입니다. 또한, 지역 지도자, 군 장병, 민간인, 가족분들 환영합니다.

To all of you in attendance today both in person and virtually, thank you for taking the time to honor GEN and Mrs. Abrams and the ROK-US Alliance.
대면 및 온라인상으로 참석해주신 여러분, 바쁘신 가운데 에이브럼스 부부와 한미 동맹을 위해 참석해 주셔서 감사합니다.

I also want to recognize the ambassadors from the UN Sending States and Neutral Nations Supervisory Commission Representatives, and our ROK partners for being with us today . . .
참석해주신 유엔전력제공국 대사님들, 중립국감독위원회 대표님들, 한측 파트너분들께 감사합니다.

Our greatest asymmetric advantage is our allies and partners.  It has been said, “If you want to go fast, go alone. If you want to go far, go together.”  Now, please note that here before you, are the colors that represent the Service Members and civilians assigned to the United Nations Command, Combined Forces Command, and the United States Forces Korea.  Please further note that there is no greater symbol and demonstration of the ROK-US Alliance than the words “Katchi Kapshida” . . . and what that cloth represents.  Those flags are venerated reminders that truly . . . “We go together”.
우리가 갖고 있는 최대 비대칭적 우위는 바로 동맹과 파트너들입니다. ‘빨리 가려면 혼자가고, 멀리 가려면 함께 가라’는 말이 있습니다. 여러분 앞에 유엔사, 연합사, 주한미군사의 장병과 민간 근무원들을 대표하는 부대기들이 있습니다. 또, ‘같이 갑시다’라는 문구보다 나은 한미 동맹의 상징이나 징표는 없습니다. 우리 앞에 있는 기들은 우리가 실로 같이 간다는 점을 상기시켜줍니다.

Being ready to “fight tonight” means maintaining capability and creating time and space to enable the diplomatic process, thus preserving options for leaders . . . Indeed, I am aware of the most sacred trust given to me to prepare our Service Members to fight and win, on the most dangerous piece of ground . . . the last 100 meters.
‘Fight tonight 태세를 갖춘다’는 능력을 유지하면서 외교적 노력이 진행될 수 있는 시간과 공간을 만들어 줌으로써 지도자들에게 선택지를 제공하는 것을 의미합니다. 물론, 마지막 100미터까지도 가장 위험천만한 땅 위에서 싸워 이길 수 있도록 우리 장병들을 준비시키도록 저에게 주신 거룩한 믿음을 알고 있습니다.

Our Alliance, forged in blood, in the crucible of the Korean War, has been the bedrock of peace and stability on the Korean peninsula for more than 70 years. I look forward to us getting together in the true spirit of one team to strengthen our Alliance and propel it to even greater heights.
한국전쟁의 포화 속에서 피로 맺어진 우리 동맹은 지난 70여년 동안 한반도 평화와 안정의 기반이었습니다. 우리 동맹을 강화하고 더 높은 고지로 전진시키기 위해 진정한 한 팀의 정신으로 함께할 것을 기대합니다.

The ROK-US Alliance remains the cornerstone of stability and security in Northeast Asia and that partnership continues to grow through economic cooperation, mitigating threats to regional
stability, and fulfilling our commitments.
한미 동맹은 동북아의 안정과 안보의 근간이며 우리의 파트너십은 경제협력, 역내 안정을 위한 위협 완화, 결의 이행을 통해 계속 성장하고 있습니다.

We learn from each other . . . we create combat readiness together . . . and more importantly, we build trust together.
우리는 서로에게서 배우고, 함께 전투준비태세를 만들며, 더 중요하게는 함께 신뢰를 구축합니다.

I would like to recognize GEN Abe Abrams and his wife Connie for their leadership on the Korean Peninsula which started long before his arrival, and also their lifetime of dedicated service to our Nation.  I wish them well in their next chapter.  Good luck with your Korean cooking classes…
한반도에 오기 전부터 훌륭한 지도력을 발휘하고, 평생 나라를 위해 헌신적으로 봉사한 에이브럼스 장군님과 코니 부인께 감사합니다. 앞으로 펼칠 인생에 새 장에 건승을 기원합니다. 한국음식 요리 공부에 행운을 빕니다.

Finally, to Theresa – you know the deal.  To our growing family, represented by our youngest – Maggie – who is here with us today, and our extended family . . . . . thank you.
마지막으로 제 아내 테레사, 제가 무슨 말할지 잘 알 겁니다. 오늘 참석한 막내 딸 메기와 늘어나고 있는 우리 가족, 그리고 확대가족원들에게 감사합니다.
