CAMP HUMPHREYS, PYEONGTAEK, Republic of Korea - The United Nations Command in Korea is observing United Nations Day today by highlighting recent historically significant events such as service member remains return and supporting international diplomacy.
캠프 험프리즈, 평택 - 유엔사령부는 금일 [유엔의 날]을 보내며 최근 유해 송환과 국제사회의 외교적 노력 지원과 같은 역사적인 순간들을 상기해본다.
U.N. Command's recent engagements with the international community, especially the original United Nations sending states, the Republic of Korea, and the Democratic People's Republic of Korea, has advanced recent diplomatic dialogue and reinforces U.N. Command's role in supporting peace in the region.
유엔사령부의 최근 남북 그리고 유엔참전국을 포함한 국제사회와의 교류는 외교적 대화를 진전 시켰으며 영내 평화유지를 지원하는 유엔사령부의 역할을 강화하였다.
"United Nations Command is proud to be a part of the current history being made on the Korean Peninsula," said Lt. Gen. Wayne D. Eyre, Deputy Commander of UNC. "The command will continue to work closely with the Republic of Korea and Democratic People's republic of Korea to support future remains repatriation."
유엔사 부사령관, 웨인 에어 중장은 "유엔사가 최근 한반도의 역사가 만들어지는 순간에 동참하게 된 것이 자랑스럽다," 라며 "유엔 사령부는 남북과 지속적으로 공조하여 향후 유해 송환을 지원할 것이다"라고 말하였다.
U.N. Command's historically significant multilateral engagements include:
유엔사령부의 역사적인 다자협의체 참여는 다음과 같다.
- July 27, 2018: Honorable carry ceremony, at Osan Air Base, South Korea, transferred 55 sets of remains covered by the United Nations flag. The Defense POW/MIA Accounting Agency (DPAA) continues work on identification for the remaining sets.
- 2018년 7월 27일: 오산 공군기지에서 유엔기를 덮은 55개의 유해관을 본국으로 송환하는 유해 송환식이 엄숙하게 거행 되었다. 미 국방부 전쟁포로 및 실종자 확인국은 남은 유해의 신원확인 작업을 지속할 것이다.
- Sept. 12, 2018: DPAA identifies the remains of U.S. Army Master Sgt. Charles H. McDaniel, killed during the Korean War.
- 2018년 9월 12일: 미 국방부 전쟁포로 및 실종자 확인국 (DPAA)은 한국전쟁 당시 전사한 미 육군 찰스 맥 다니엘 상사의 유해 신원을 확인하였다.
- Sept. 13, 2018: DPAA identifies the remains of U.S. Army Pfc. William H. Jones, killed during the Korean War.
- 2018년 9월 13일: 미 국방부 전쟁포로 및 실종자 확인국 (DPAA)은 한국전쟁 당시 전사한 미 육군 윌리암 존스 일병의 유해 신원을 확인하였다.
- Sept. 27, 2018: Ceremony held to repatriate 64 remains determined to be South Korean service members recovered during earlier joint recovery operations.
- 2018년 9월 27일: 남북 공동 유해 발굴 작업에서 확인 된 한국군 전사자 64구의 유해를 추모하는 송환식이 거행되었다.
- Oct. 5, 2018: Royal New Zealand Navy telegraphist Peter James Mollison and New Zealand Army driver Herbert Lester Humm were disinterred from the United Nations Military Cemetery in Tanggok, Busan and returned to New Zealand.
- 2018년 10월 5일: 부산 유엔 기념묘지에 안장된 뉴질랜드 해군 피터 제임스 몰리슨 전신병과 육군 하버트 레스터 험 운전병의 유해를 본국으로 송환하는 행사를 거행하였다.
- Oct. 9, 2018: UNC offers full support for clearing landmines in the DMZ. Clearing landmines will enable safe access for joint recovery of remains operations.
- 2017년 10월 9일: 유엔 사령부는 비무장지대 내 지뢰제거 작업을 전적으로 지지한다. 지뢰제거 작업은 공동 유해발굴 작업의 안전한 접근을 용이하게 할 것이다.
- Oct. 17, 2018: Military officials from the UNC, ROK, and DPRK met to discuss various issues, to include future potential return of service member remains. The meeting was the first such trilateral meeting between UNC, the ROK, and DPRK.
- 2018년 10월 17일: 유엔사 및 남북한 군사당국자들은 향후 유해송환을 포함한 다양한 의제들을 논의하였다. 이날의 회의는 남북 및 유엔사 3자가 참석한 첫번째 회의였다.
- Oct. 22, 2018: Military officials from the UNC, ROK, and DPRK conducted their second trilateral meeting at the Joint Security Areas at Panmunjom.
- 2018년 10월 22일: 유엔사 및 남북한 군사당국자들은 판문점에서 남북 및 유엔사 3자 협의체 제 2차 회의를 가졌다
