CAMP HUMPHREYS, PYEONGTAEK, Republic of Korea – United Nations Command, Combined Forces Command, and United States Forces Korea welcomed the new command team Gen. Robert B. Abrams, and Command Sgt. Maj. Walter A. Tagalicud and bid farewell to Gen. Vincent K. Brooks and Command Sgt. Maj. Steven L. Payton during a change of command and change of responsibility ceremony on Barker Field at 10 a.m. today.
대한민국, 평택, 캠프험프리스 – 금일 10시 바커필드에서 거행된 이취임시에서 유엔군사령부, 연합군 사령부 및 주한미군사령부 신임 사령관, 로버트 B. 에이브람스 대장과 월터 A. 타갈리쿠드 주임원사는 빈센트 K. 브룩스 대장과 스티븐 L. 페이튼 주임원사로부터 지휘권과 직무를 이양 받았다.
The ceremony was co-hosted by Jeong Kyeon-Doo, Republic of Korea’s Minister of National Defense, Gen. Paul J. Selva, Vice Chairman, Joint Chiefs of Staff and Adm. Phil Davidson, Commander, U.S. Indo-Pacific Commander.
이취임식은 대한민국 국방부 정경두 장관, 미합동참모본부 차장 폴 J. 셀바 차장 대장 및 인도-태평양 사령관 필 데이비드슨 제독이 공동으로 주관하였다.
“General Brooks has led this command during one of the most dynamic and contentious times since the end of the Korean War,” said Adm. Davidson, Commander, U.S. Indo-Pacific Command.
인도-태평양 사령관 데이비드슨 제독은 “브룩스 사령관은 한국 전쟁 종전후 가장 역동적이고 호전적인 시기에 이 사령부를 이끌었다”라고 말하였다.
“We have started on the historic path to a truly peaceful and prosperous Korean peninsula, but you have also made it clear that our commitment to the Republic of Korea remains absolute, and we remain prepared to defend our allies using all of the capabilities at our disposal,” said Davidson.
데이비드슨 제독은 또한 ““우리는 진정으로 평화롭고 번창한 한반도로 가는 역사적 여정을 시작하였고, 브룩스 사령관은 대한민국에 대한 우리의 공약은 절대적이며 우리의 모든 전력을 사용해 동맹국을 방위할 준비가 되어 있다는 것을 명백히 하였다”고 말했다.
General Abrams’ previous assignment was as the 22nd Commander of United States Army Forces Command, at Fort Bragg, North Carolina, from August 2015 until October 2018.
에이브람스 대장은 2015년8월부터 2018년 10월까지 노스캐롤라이나 주 브래그 기지에 위치한 미 전력사령부의 22대 사령관으로 근무하였다.
“We send only the best to the peninsula, and Gen. Abrams is no exception. Abe has more than 36 years of exceptional leadership at every level. He’s the senior Armor Officer in the Army, a proven leader in combat, and he has participated in or supported over 100 Korea exercises,” said Gen. Paul Selva, vice chairman, Joint Chiefs of Staff.
미 합동참모본부 차장 폴 셀바 대장은 “우리는 한반도에 가장 뛰어난 사령관만을 파견하는데, 에이브람스 대장도 그 예외는 아니다. 그는 36년 이상 모든 지휘부에서 탁월한 지도력을 보여주어었다. 그는 육군 선임 기갑장교였고 전투에서 입증된 지휘관이었으며 한국관련 연습을 100회 이상 참가및 지원하였다.”라고 말했다.
An armored cavalryman, Gen. Abrams earned his commission from the United States Military Academy in 1982. He has commanded at every level from company through division, and led units in combat operations in Saudi Arabia, Kuwait, Iraq and Afghanistan.
에이브람스 대장은 1982년 미 육군사관학교를 졸업하여 기갑 기병장교로 임관하였고 중대부터 사단에에 이르기까지 모든 단계를 지휘하였으며, 사우디 아라비아, 쿠웨이트, 이라크 및 아프가니스탄에서 전투작전을 지휘하였다.
“I am committed to continue building on our special relationships with the Republic of Korea and each of the U.N. sending states and their national contingents as we work together in our collective missions for a peaceful and secure Korean peninsula,” said Gen. Abrams.
에이브람스 신임사령관은 “평화롭고 안전한 한반도를 위한 우리가 함께 임무를 수행함에 있어 대한미국과 유엔 전력제공국 및 파견국과 특별한 관계을 지속적으로 만들어 나가는데 전념하겠다” 라고 말했다.
